The Tarot of Marseille online
The seventy-eight cards of the Tarot of Marseille, read the Marseille way: twenty-two major arcana written one by one, fifty-six minors that are a number in a suit. A reversed card is never the opposite of the upright one: the same force, hindered. Here, the arcanum of the day and the meaning of each card; in the Sanctuary, the spreads, and the reading of your own deck from a photo.
The arcanum of the day · October 1
Shared clarity. What is done by two, in broad daylight, with joy.
One card among the twenty-two majors, the same all day for whoever passes here. In the Sanctuary the arcanum of the day is yours - drawn on your name and the date, free at the first tier.
A symbolic support for reflection: it predicts nothing and decides nothing for you.
The twenty-two major arcana
0 · The FoolUpright - Setting out with no baggage: you go without knowing where, and that is precisely what freedom is.Reversed - Wandering rather than journeying. You keep moving so as not to choose.
I · The MagicianUpright - Everything is on the table; nothing has yet begun. Skill, the beginning.Reversed - The tools are there, but the hand hesitates. Much dexterity, little commitment.
II · The PopessUpright - Knowledge that keeps silent. To study, to wait, to let things ripen in silence.Reversed - Withdrawal turns to coldness. A secret kept too long goes sour.
III · The EmpressUpright - Intelligence that radiates and gives form. To charm, to understand, to create.Reversed - Charm turns into mere appearance. You shine without laying any foundation.
IIII · The EmperorUpright - To set the framework, to hold the structure, to reign over the tangible.Reversed - Authority stiffens. The framework protects less than it confines.
V · The PopeUpright - To pass on, to connect, to bless. The master, counsel, the word that forms a bridge.Reversed - The magisterium becomes a sermon. You teach what you no longer practise.
VI · The LoverUpright - A choice of the heart that commits you. To love, and so to decide.Reversed - Indecision between two paths. You want to keep everything, and you lose both.
VII · The ChariotUpright - Momentum that reaches its goal. You move forward, you are recognised, you carry the day.Reversed - The chariot rolls on without a driver. Too fast, or in the wrong direction.
VIII · JusticeUpright - Balance, the exact measure, what is due. Fair judgement.Reversed - The scales tip. Rigidity, procedure, or an account badly settled.
VIIII · The HermitUpright - The lamp you carry alone. Prudence, slowness, patient searching.Reversed - Solitude closes in on itself. Withdrawal no longer sheds light; it isolates.
X · The Wheel of FortuneUpright - Things take a new turn. One cycle ends, another begins; there is no holding it back.Reversed - The wheel spins to no purpose, or against you. You repeat instead of moving forward.
XI · StrengthUpright - Gentle mastery: opening the lion's jaws without violence.Reversed - Strength is misused. Constraint on the outside, or passion poorly held within.
XII · The Hanged ManUpright - Suspended, head down: you see differently, and you consent to wait.Reversed - Waiting becomes a pointless sacrifice. You stay hanging on without knowing why.
XIII · The Nameless ArcanumUpright - The scythe that cuts so that it may grow back. A necessary ending, a clearing away.Reversed - The cut is refused, or badly made. You cling on, or you cut where you should not.
XIIII · TemperanceUpright - The passing from one vessel to the other: flow, calm, the right measure.Reversed - The flow is blocked. A mixture badly made, patience worn thin.
XV · The DevilUpright - The force of desire, matter, what binds and kindles fire.Reversed - Attachment becomes a chain. Dependence, bargains, control.
XVI · The House of GodUpright - Lightning on the tower: what had to fall falls, and sets free.Reversed - The collapse drags on. You stay in the rubble instead of getting out.
XVII · The StarUpright - Naked hope, pouring out water without measure. You are brought into the world anew.Reversed - Hope without action. You wait for help without preparing the way for it.
XVIII · The MoonUpright - The fertile night: dream, sensitivity, what is known without being proved.Reversed - Illusion and worry. You take your fears for signs.
XVIIII · The SunUpright - Shared clarity. What is done by two, in broad daylight, with joy.Reversed - The light blinds. Vanity, or an understanding too good to be true.
XX · JudgementUpright - The call that awakens. A rebirth, news that sets you back on your feet.Reversed - The call goes unheard. You judge the past instead of being reborn.
XXI · The WorldUpright - Fulfilment. The thing is done, recognised, whole.Reversed - Success stays on the threshold. The last step is missing, or the recognition.
